Nothing at Horsley Kids matters more than the safety of the children in our care. Our purpose-built centre in Horsley Park combines secure entry, constant supervision, rigorously trained educators and age appropriate safety education, all within the National Quality Framework that every Australian early learning service is assessed against.
This page explains how safety works across the centre, from the front door to the playground.
Security was built into the centre from the ground up. Entry is controlled through an intercom system, surveillance and security cameras operate across the premises, and the playground was deliberately designed to be visible, so children are always in sight of educators as they play among the natural turf, trees and gardens. Families are welcome any time during operating hours, and the same secure entry that protects the children makes arrivals simple for enrolled families.
Every educator at Horsley Kids holds a valid Working With Children Check, as required for anyone working in early education in NSW. Our educators are trained in child protection, first aid and emergency procedures, nutrition and healthy eating, workplace health and safety, and the National Quality Standard.
Just as important is who those educators are. Many of our team have been at Horsley Kids for years, and that longevity means children are cared for by familiar, trusted adults who know them well, and families deal with faces they know at drop-off and pick-up. Horsley Kids does not take children on out-of-centre excursions, a deliberate policy made for child safety and staffing ratio reasons. Instead, the experiences come to us: reptile shows, mobile petting farms, pantomimes, musical productions, dentist visits and eye screening all happen inside the centre, at no extra cost to families. The local fire brigade, ambulance service and police also visit through the year. Details are on our program and curriculum page.
Safety education is part of the program, delivered in age appropriate ways. Through visits from the local fire brigade, ambulance service and police, children cover fire safety, life skills through the Healthy Harold program, and child protection education through the Bravehearts program. These experiences give children language and confidence around their own safety, and they complement the protective behaviours families teach at home.
Daily safety extends to health. Five medical-grade HEPA air purifiers run throughout the centre, and Horsley Kids is Sensitive Choice approved by the National Asthma Council of Australia, which matters for children with asthma, allergies or respiratory sensitivities. Our SunSmart practices protect children outdoors year round, and every menu is planned by a certified dietician and prepared fresh in our on-site kitchen. More is on our health and nutrition page.
Australian early learning services are assessed against the National Quality Standard, and Quality Area 2 deals specifically with children’s health and safety. Horsley Kids has maintained an Exceeding rating across every assessment since 2006, and you can read about the framework on ACECQA’s website or see our history on our quality rating page. NSW services also operate under the Child Safe Standards overseen by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

No. For child safety and staffing ratio reasons we do not run out-of-centre excursions. Instead we bring visiting experiences into the centre throughout the year, from reptile shows and petting farms to emergency services visits.
